Chiddy Bang feat. Sufjan Stevens, “All Things Go”

Listening to Sufjan Stevens’ Illinois reminds me of my first year of teaching—which, as you probably know by now, is not exactly something that I define as a high point in my life. And then listening to songs all about my home state when I was miserable in Pennsylvania didn’t really make my situation all that better.

I’m glad to see there’s a more upbeat update. Bonus: Philly-based Chiddy Bang shouts out Drexel in the song. They’ve also dissed Asher Roth before, so this is like an enemy-of-my-enemy blah blah blah kind of thing.

Oh, but how wrong you are, G Manifesto. Cherry doesn’t yearn for Dallas because he “spat game” at her. It’s my personal belief that Cherry, like many strong-willed women expected to adhere to social norms of being a “nice girl” (which I’m sure were even more oppressive in a bourgeois 1960s Oklahoma social set), really just wanted what he had…specifically, the balls to do whatever the hell he goddamn pleased. In short, he had a quality she envied for herself.

Isn’t that the basis of why we’re ever attracted to someone else?

This is my dog Aurora. She lives at my parents’ house in Illinois. As you can see, she is very stubborn! Most American Eskimos are. She and I have a lot in common, aside from our obstinate natures.

She is a bad dog, which makes me like her because she has more personality that way. This mirrors my preference for the “bad” kids as students (they’re always more hilarious) and bad boys (they’re so cool!)

One summer I gave her a bath and used some shampoo for white dogs that turned out to be a bit defective—it turned her purple. This is like the time I tried to dye my hair blue in eighth grade and ended up dying my entire body blue in the process. Silly Manic Panic!

This past spring, I cut my hair shorter than it’s ever been since middle school. Aurora also experienced a bit of a change—my parents had her whole body shorn like a spring lamb. Now she resembles a large cat. I have to say, my haircut was a bit more successful.

Not really much to say, except that I’m feeling more...
