Ce Weekend: December 3rd-5th, 2010

  • I saw Warpaint at Making Time on Friday night; I think they are best experienced in a more intimate setting (how cliche, but there it is) like the first time I saw them.  Unfortunately, they are pretty talented, so I doubt you will have many more opportunities to catch them in such a venue.  I haven’t been to a Making Time in probably two years now—the last one I went to may have actually been at Transit before they shut it down, so that’s how you know how long ago that was.  Anyway.  The party was just as smoky as I remembered, although it seems like the art school kids are more into showers and Balearic beat these days than natural musk and electro house.  Hey, if American Apparel can rebrand themselves, SO CAN THE HIPSTERS WHO LOVE THEM.
  • One of my favorite pastimes, and this will probably reveal just how truly sedentary and indulgent I can be, is to lay around in bed until at least noon on a weekend finishing a book.  This week’s novel was a bit of a palate cleanser after my Atwood binge.  It was entertaining.  I’ve never read any Gaiman before and I don’t think I will bother anymore after this one.
  • How many latke parties did you attend this weekend?  How about gelt—how many calories did you consume?  How many times did you watch that Maccabeats video, or rather, how long was it stuck in your head?
